No, all distros have the same kernel and all are Linux.
The difference into one distro or another distro is basically in what kernel version have and what packages or software have each distro, but all distros work very similar in command line.

Try to adapt the code to Android :twisted:
The Java language used in Android Apps isn't a real complete Java languaje :/

If he chooses Debian, then he should download deb files. Rpm is for Red Hat Linux, but there is a way to convert rpm files to deb by using a program called "alien".
