L2JDP Revision 7546:
Clean server, fully patched epilogue client, i am currently connecting to the server thru my local ip (127.0.0.1) since it seems like it won't let me connect with my no-ip.org account... i don't know why... My server configs are set to name.no-ip.org
Anyways once i get to the server selection screen, i try to connect and i get this error saying my protocol version is different. what's wrong? is it the client or the server? please help me into making my first server ever.
Ok, i've set everything to localhost and it lets me log in, so what's wrong with my previous configurations? is no-ip.org the problem? I have a dynamic ip i can't possibly change it everyday... Any suggestions?
EDIT: I've changed everything back in the ip configurations to ramzah.no-ip.org
this is what i have in my hosts file:
ramzah.no-ip.org l2authd.Lineage2.com
ramzah.no-ip.org l2testauthd.lineage2.com
216.107.250.194 nprotect.lineage2.com
216.107.250.194 update.nProtect.com
216.107.250.194 update.nProtect.net
yet the client is sending me to the official server login page... what's wrong?

you need to set the hosts file (c:/windows/system32/drivers/etc) to be like this:
Yeah... the problem with that is that i have a dynamic ip... if i wanted to start a server and i gave everyone a hosts file to connect to my server, i'd have to change it every time i restarted my pc... That'd be pretty annoying.. Does that mean no-ip.org can't work with l2j?
what do you mean by activate?
as far as i know, no-ip provides you with a software that refresh the domain every time you start your PC or lets say every 1 hour. if you mean that, then yes, you need to install it, write your no-ip account info and make it refresh.
Know that dynamic ip changes almost every 3 days (unless you use dial-up adsl which is every time you connect as well), so if you keep your pc on the whole time, you should update your ip often since you don't know when it will change. if there is an option to refresh your ip every 10 minutes do it.
Servers may be using no-ip, but you still cannot redirect an url with another url in the hosts file.
If you do a simple ping on the url to test it, you will see that it hasn't been redirected at all.
