Friend Changes host file but still connects official

I can fully log in to my own server. i followed every instruction on changing ipconfig so that the external is my IP. i had him change his host file so that it connects to my external IP. but when he runs his Lineage 2 to play, its still connected to the official servers instead of going by the ip in the Host file.

I am also confused what to do with the port forwarding i do not have a router, i have a switch between modem and computers.

Any help would be awesome!

probably he have modified client, tell him to do a check file.
