Problem connecting to server on same network

Problem: Everyone outside my network can connect except computers inside router. ???

The server box is running windows server 2008 OS. The router is a D-Link 825. The server is hard lined into the router as well as the client machine. Anyone else can connect to the server with the exception of anyone on the home network. Is this common?

I have tried to connect via the servers local IP as well as through the external IP address by editing the host file. No combination seems to work.
