Thought about upadtes.

Post by Ghurdyl »

Hello,

I would not like to seem like I am too impatient of that I stir up the hornets' nest again, but here is a though of mine about the new update policy.

I would first like to tell that I feel like a young child waiting for Christmas, ... but who has lost his calendar and doesn't know how many night has has to sleep before The Great Day.

Just to say that I am not in a complaining mood, but more likely in enjoyable feeling with an inch of frustration.

Anyway, here my piece of mind :

I tried to find something like an ETA for the next update but, if there is one, it is too well hidden for me.

I think that many of us would be glad to have something like an ETA of the updates.
As an IT developer, I perfectly know this can be very hard to plan such things.
But, from my own little point of view, I see two cases :
- Either the L2J Team is developing several "small" things that requires 4-5 days.
- Or they are working on big refactoring and deep changes.
I think that in the firs case, saying that by the end of the month there will be something to update doesn't put them under pressure. So I think an ETA can be provided in that case.
For the second case, a small piece of information saying what you are working on (like "working on quest engine") can appreciated.
An ETA is always an ETA so an estimated time of arrival and we never blame anyone making a wrong estimation (at least I never do it).
So, event if it not accurate, a little piece of communication would be very appreciable, maybe more that you think ?

Another point I would like to share is that L2J server counts at least two projects.
If I agree with L2J's idea to reduce the update frequency, why not to update datapack and gameserver separately when it is possible ?
Correct-me if I am wrong but when you have successfully gathered NPC's stats or a quest script, this doesn't always need a gameserver update to be commited.

There were just my own little thought I wanted to write down.

It's not easy to write and share ideas that can potentially upset people, especially in a language that isn't yours.
So I'll end up my post saying that I sincerely have a huge respect for L2J's work and that I really appreciate it.

:)

Due to some internal tensions inside team release delayed.
I will lock this topic to prevent flame.
