Hey guys.
Im having a server on my computer, and the people that coming are getting higher and higher and my net speed cant handle it anymore, so im moving to a dediacted server.
How can I do it?
Will my server run on Windows Server 2008 R2 Web Edition - only 64 bit [not its on windows 7] with no problems?
And on Ubuntu 10.10, Cent OS 5.5, Debian [those are the free] it will work? because I installed the server on my computer that is windows 7..
How can I import all data? [backup mysql, transfer to there, and all my l2server directory to there?]

Well, if your server is growing then yes, you do need a dedicated server. Whats your budget and how many players MAX per day you have?

When you get a dedicated server, you can either ask for Win2003 or Win2008 to be installed "Cost 20-40 USD per month depinding on company". Anyway, you can install any OS you want or even your own but the it should be reliable and you must know how to use it!

As for transfer, when your new server is ready and online, you will need to install few things such as java, mysql, firewall "or windows firewall", you will also need to optimize/config your hardware...etc

Then move all your files, then shutdown and move the database. Finally start it up!

Of course, this is not the perfect guide but gives you an idea on how to do it.

I will take windows server 2008, but they have 2 versions? Web and more one thing. - which to take?
BTW, when I have windows server 2008 , does the regular programs work with it?
like Navicta Premium , MYSQL, or I need special programs?
And how I take my sql [with chars] / database to there?
I backup and use it there?

Yes, all your programs will work with it.

* Make a copy of your database from Navicat, then look for it navicat program files folder, and move it to the new server.

* Move all your files to the new server.

* Make sure you have all the nessacery programs installed such as mysql, navicat, java...etc

* Open navicat in the new server, create new database, go to restore backup and restore your server database.

Windows server is not bad at all

windows is good if you have a good firewall....

i recommend windows server 2008 enterprise with cisco firewall

on Linux you have it for free so why to pay?

Some have trouble managing a Linux.... And frankly I'd rather pay for something if it works well and does not wander to something that nose if you have a good performance, beyond that Linux is better than Windows in terms of performance...

yes - in Linux a proper config is the MOST important.

Never made mysql server (32/64 bit - both version) perform on windows even halft the speed its easy to get it work on gentoo64 maybe I can't do it on win, but tried for 5 days like probably every possible option combinations (once run out of ideas for trying some that looked "promising") On windows it seem that query cache just doesn't work like it should...

I recommend you - Win. 2008 Enterprise R2 Server 64
