Client & Server on same machine?

Post by Helepolis »

L2J Revision Number: 4018
L2JDP Revision Number: 7200

Searching for this issue brought almost no hits. Well, not quite an issue perhaps but not being able to find related material. My question simple. Is it possible to run the clients and server on the same machine without receiving errors?

Right now I can do this, but upon logging into the game the console reports an error in relation to the character. The game is able to continue but I cannot target anything and nothing responds such as execute //admin or //gmshop. It will report: admin_admin not handled or admin_gmshop not handled. Running the server on a separate machine gives no problems (as expected). So what seems to be exactly the deal.

I remember than in the old version of L2j a similar problem was present. Such as running gameserver and client on same machine would give GG errors. However that was fixable by adjusting a line in one of the config files. This seems to be something different.

Assume:
1. you use Windows (not server version)
2. you have Cpu with 1 core
3. gs console is minimized
If you answered 3x yes then continue:
L2.exe is weird program and it consume all cpu resources while is in focus, so Windows decide to not give cpu time to minimized programs like gs, so you are in lag.

OS: Windows 7 CPU: Quadcore AMD GS console: does not matter minimized or open.

My GS is currently running on my 2nd pc (XP, single core AMD), so I am just LAN connecting to it and my friends are external connecting. Nothing wrong here and all works fine. I haven't tried to reproduce the error message on that pc yet by running GS and client there. Will do that when I am home.

It is just that I dont want to keep running two PCs constantly when I am out of the house (incase my friends want to connect to it) so that is why I wondered why this occurs.
