A lot of people done it without some "lessons" and you will get more experiences when you try it on your own. You have nothing to screw up and if you don't know then try to ask someone but the first attempt is very important. Try to do it yourself first.

Eclipse is IDE like many others, there are some common features and all you need is some "mother wit" to install the neccessary things like Subclipse. Btw in the Wiki there is an article about that and about adding some mods too including the instructions how to compile the server or update it.

Start by yourself, but definitely a huge boost would be to work together as "helper" with an experienced developer. You will progress much faster than by doing it completelly alone. Stacking in errors and other strange things for hours can be avoided with the aid of someone experienced.

you not need learn all steps - you must learn FIRST STEP (not steps), after it you must learn and do 2-nd STEP, after it step 3, 4, 5 ... 345, 346, 347 ... more more and more... and then last step :roll:
bad practice is to ignore first steps and start learn step 345 first... so make revision of your knowledge or learn all from first step

*** STEP 0 (before step 1) try start from here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P742YDlb5BE&fmt=18
it's a video step by step, if you not understand video just watch it for basic info like movie :wink: ;

*** or http://www.l2jserver.com/trac/wiki/L2J_Install just read slow !!! slow - every one word here is important when you start learn servers from here and DO on your computer all step by step

*** work till you reach step that can not understand or can't do on computer while you read this link or watch video and then search help in forum

1. write your question here search.php ... and pres ENTER
2. if you cant find answer try to create a topic with your question
good example "how to find and setup my external IP" bad example "how to develop" (ppls not like answer to global questions; exact, simple and short question will give you simple an short answer, global question will give you basic and total answer :P )

if you know and do all up use this document for next step http://www.l2jserver.com/trac/wiki/Eclipse

and this for next http://www.l2jserver.com/trac/wiki/TitleIndex
(as you know datapack is not a server - extend your learning here http://www.l2jdp.com/trac/wiki/TitleIndex )

good luck - you already know how to find help
