Cannot connect to server

So the server is running fine, the login server is running fine. I doownloaded and updated the client all the way. I modified the hosts file to be :
65.60.57.74 L2authd.lineage2.com

I run the client, put in a username and password and it tells me the login information is wrong. I also ping the above hostname and it pings to the correct IP also labled above. I am out of ideas...anyone?

Possibly you have a modified system folder and with l2.ini file modified, then your lineage 2 client is trying to connect to another server instead of the ip that you have put in the hosts.

Try with a clean client updated and without modifications.

thanks for the suggestion. But this is unmodified. All i did was download the client. Run updates. Modify hosts file to look like this.

Then run the lineageII.exe file, it goes to login screen. Enter username and password. It tells me login information is incorrect, even if i try some random username and password.

mmmm, are you using the LIVE client, or PTS client ?

PTS Client I beleive is what I am using.

See, I tried that already. But the my problem is with the update. It says i loose connection to the update server or something.

i donwloaded and installed the other client. Now it seems to let me login, but shortly after i get the "Hacking Tool" error. Oh geeze what do i do now?

well, the "Hacking Tool" message is related with gameguard issues, try to search in the forum, there is various topics with same issues, and with many different solutions

Right it appears the (legal one) solution no longer works, and all the other threads are about chaning the host file. So it appears this is not going to work.

ugg so now i get l2.bin error, i actually had it working for a bit. Yes i did some searching in the forums but find everything that mentions l2.bin and no help.
