[L2j] Big Changes in L2j Server and Datapack [UPDATED]

Hi there guys!

As you can see we have made tons of changes in the forums. Sadly we couldnt archive a proper conversion wBB->phpBB our old wBB 2.3.6 board didnt like the conversion tool to get ported to our new overpowered phpBB forum, so we decided to leave aside that old forum full of junk but also full of important information.

With this new forum we hope to beat out our old forum, and get his one more bigger, stronger and mighty! So we will ask the help of everyone in our community to make this possible.

The old forum is still accessible in Read-Only mode here Reference Documentation Board, it has been set to let non-registered users access all the forums/topics/posts that were avaliable to the registered ones, so you dont need to worry if you dont have an account there, you can always go back and consult or search for documentation in the old forum. But here comes the main idea:

We have also gave birth to a new idea, the L2j Wiki the main goal its to get this into a Real Documentation of L2j Server using the collaborative power of the Wiki, all the registered users on it will be able to create/edit the Documentation, we will follow the Wikipedia like rules, please note that all the content of this wiki will be under a Creative ommons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported Licence so anyone who wishes to make changes to the wiki agrees to release their work under this new license. Please avoid to use any copyrighted content on the Wiki like logos/images/text or any other kind of copyrighted content, use the main Wikipedia for reference in your texts. Also its not permitted to embed links to external webpages/sites/servers on the Wiki as advertisement, this is strictly forbidden and it will be punished, the only allowed external links are to Wikipedia.com, L2jserver.com and L2jdp.com (some exceptions may apply)

New forum tools have been added like RSS feeds, now you can track your favorite forums or posts on your own feed reader (note that some forums require to be logged in) and some extra features to prevent bot registrations, anyways if you spot one hit the Report button.

With this we have now running the Fourth Phase of our L2j Server Community Project

Hi there guys, long time without seeing ur ugly avatars!

In 2008 L2j DP and Core team members proposed a big change in L2j Server, the First Phase of those changes were first tested on L2j Datapack as you many have seen, a new forum, with new tools and look.

Later the Second Phase was to change the L2j Server main forums as well, but we found a obstacle, our mighty forum didnt want to migrate to any other forum plataform, specially a free and opensource one like SMF or phpBB (too much garbage after conversion), he is so proud of been a WBB forum that he said "F$ck you all! i want to stay like this!" then we had no other choice of start to look for another options, after a whole year playing with phpBB in the L2j DP forums all our developers feels confortable with it and we all agree that it actually looks a way more organized, efficient and polished that the current core forums, and we can install a lot more of useful scripts than in WBB, so... we have decided to move COMPLETELY to phpBB on behalf of the forum and our beloved/painful users.

Then, it comes the Third Phase of this changes.

From now on, the L2j-Core and L2j-DP forums will be on the same place, you all know that Datapack guys are really friendly with us and we play nice, so Datapack branch of L2j will now be on the main L2j Server forums. This doesnt mean that L2j Datapack has been fused with L2j Server, right now they are two independent projects, but this can change somewhat in a near future... this is to obtain more communication between both projects and also make it a lot easier for our users to get information quickly without needing to switch between forums accounts.

In order to get this done the old WBB forums (this one) will be disabled and archived, all the forum sections will be open for all (no registration required for access) and set up in a "Read Only" mode, you will find the old forum (this one) in a new section apart of the new forums, in something like http://www.l2jserver.com/frozen-beer/ or similar. We will keep this as a "Reference Documentation Board" for your use and future reference/documentation.

Fourth Phase, YAY! things got interesting from here on.

New Website! finally! or i should say weblog, it will have RSS Feeds, Developers occasional blogging/ranting and a lot more is planned for it, and "yes" we will allow posts comments for you all let us know what do you think/troll.

L2j-Wiki, yeah as it sounds we will start a new Wiki for Documentation purposes, the actual one in the Trac isnt so fun, so we will create this one and it will be OPEN FOR EDIT (like Wikipedia) but some restrictions apply and registration is needed plus some captcha extras. The idea of this Wiki its to let you all help us with the Documentation of L2j Server, we all know that this is a poor area in our project, and all the Developers are busy doing their job/lifes/coding/gaming, then we ask for the help of all our users to write up a good documentation using the Power of Wiki Lvl1!

We hope to let you see the new changes in the next week progressively, if you see the forums down or website crashed dont worry, its just DrLecter messing with the server.

Will posts and contribs from the old core forum be restored here in a working or even archived state or should we begin to repost our contribs and such?

Congratulations!
The phpbb 3.X is the best option.

My unique problem is : My user in old forum is a "L2J-Test Member" and here my name is "nobody" ^^

There is estimated to fix this?

Forgot to mention that you must mantain the original author rights of everything that you repost, if you repost a code or any kind contribution you must make reference to its original author and give him the full rights of it. You may not claim authorship of any kind of contribution that isnt yours. And at least (but no neccesary) put a link back to the original post.

I will check out Akismet for Wordpress, but since Akismet its based on blacklisted works it could be hard to keep away all those gold bots that come here, because if we censor the word "gold" it may block 50% of all the posts of this forum xD

What about links to pmf** or l2.str**** to point to specific functionnalities/informations which works incorrectly in L2J ?

(Note : I self-censured the sites names... The question concern more L2DP than L2J but who knows...)

Edit: When I speak of links to some L2 knowledge site, I mean deep-links directly to the relevant info.

Actually akissmet had me flagged as spam on the trac. Which is one of the reasons I stopped posting bug reports and fixes via it.
