Eclipse is currently developed by Eclipse Foundation.

Suggestion: change topic title to "What is your favourite IDE for Java?".
"Best" is a very subjective term, and I use Eclipse for Java and PHPStorm for PHP coding because the Eclipse PDT sucks enormously.

Ya should probably be renamed, i highly doubt everyone has tested all of these, i know i have not, ive only used Eclipse out of the ones listed, and its great to me, but i suppose i could experiment.

Yeah, PHPStorm made by the same company rocked my pants off, and since Eclipse has lately seemed really slow/buggy (and my home PC is VERY good, win exp index = 7.5 for CPU, 7.9 for everything else), I'm seriously thinking about switching over too.
The only thing I don't like is that their formatter does not have an option "trim trailing whitespace, but keep indentation on empty lines". Maybe that has been added, but a while back when I tried it, it wasn't there and a quick google research resulted in forum posts about it where devs said "we don't need it".

Uh? Intelij has option to trim trailing whitespaces. And u can also enable tons of usefull "hidden" features :) (eg. awesome live templates: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1211 ... plete-list :))

Yeah, the option is there, but it empties blank lines leaving no indentation (unless it has been fixed). I'm used to having blank lines indented same as the code before/after them.

Idea is the best. One bad thing - it doesn't have official plugin for sbt.
