Looks good, but…

Well…I’ve been rather inactive from this site.  It’s looking great!  However, the first page could really use more space for the blogs.  Take any one of my typical posts from l2jdp forum and put it here.  It will likely cover 3/4 of the page or more!  I love the content and lay out of the other two columns and obviously the fonts can’t be made any smaller (they’d be too small then).  So if only this could be a little wider, it’d be ideal, imo.

On the same token, the page is too long.  The links and content at the bottom are good, but it takes some scrolling to even get to them…and then they can cover a good 1/3 of a screen on their own in a 1024×768 resolution.  Meanwhile, the page doesn’t resize too nicely on larger resolutions, i.e. it doesn’t utilize the excess space.  For example, trying with a 1440×900 resolution, the result is about 5cm of blank space on the left, another 5cm on the right, and the same-ole squeezed blog in the middle.  Is there a way to change the dimensions of the columns to each cover a prercent of the screen instead of each covering a pre-set number of pixels?  This would make things worse for the 800×600 and smaller resolutions, but those are nowadays very rare!  Most people now use 1024×768 or larger…

Anyway, that’s just food for thought.  Overall I like the way this page looks and feels, but there is room for adjustments…

BTW, the real reason that I am posting this is as a test :P You have probably noticed that I am prolonging the post’s length as much as I can!  Nevertheless, the statements I made above are my true opinions, they are not just jurgain I wrote merely to fill in space for my post ;)

  1. Well…it seems the virtual page gets longer and longer just to keep 3 posts…which means that the browser was fully filled up by my post (in 1024×728 resolution) and a user must scroll down a whole visual page in order to find the link to the second virtual page. Heh…sorry, I’m making up terms :P By visual page, I mean the length of text that fits in the browser without scrolling. By virtual page, I mean the actual page indexed at the bottom (in this case containing 3 blog entries plus headers/footers).

  2. If you’re as inspired as usual for a long post, I guess the “More…” widget should serve the purpose of not making the virtual page too long. Good to see your opinnion here, thanks!

PS: ThePhoenixBird: these red boxes sux, i want my money back :D

  3. Uhm, what do you think about links in the right column (above the pool)?
The links at bottom of the page are nice, but too far!

Other things? Oh, yes… I love the theme

  4. I’ve forgot a thing: under “Project” of “GPL Java Based Server Emulator Project” there are “Pool Archive” and “Rss” buttons :/

  5. About the poll, what does Contributors mean, eg. Initiates as Contributors and Fork representatives as Contributors, I was going to assume as can vote and can comment but decided to ask.

Now to TPB, theres a minor layout glitch with Opera:

  6. Polls archive should haven’t made its way there, fixed ^,^.

I had some pages list in the 2nd sidebox (where the poll is now, but was rejected in favor of top navigation links, could try with the resources and see what you guys think.

Contributors are meant to write stuff but an editor or admin would review and publish, if appropriate.

Here you have a list of roles:

btw, large URLs look ugly.. gonna look how to make this better..

  7. About that glitch in Opera lets get out those links in the banner and put a CSS menu down linking to the important pages.

Lecter give a look at short-url-nice-looking-thing

Yeah comment boxes sux and that “Hello” imagen sux too XDDD

But i like the color combination: Blue/Orange/Red

  8. By removing the extra page from the top navigation list, Opera bug should be fixed by now. Having the top nav links bar there is comfort imho.

I may even agree with the colorset and the 3 columns layout. What I really dislike is those damn balloons.

I’d like to add forum RSSs here too, btw…

  9. damn.. I’m a MSN thingy.. anyway much better :)
